MUSINGS
Creating in clay has become a touchstone of the last decade of my life. I strive for my forms and firing effects to achieve a balance between classical and expressionist. I rely on a strong structural and architectural understanding to find the edges of feasibility. Compositions use twisting shapes evoking human postures, canteen vessels hold stories of time. My glass & Raku innovation of surface captures a prehistorically intellectual mystery.
Glasku is the result of playing out the possibilities that fly around in my head. My first Raku with glass were modified glazes and recycled glass. Those inspired a continuation of focus that led me to hot glass application on hot pots...Glasku!
Glasku’s daunting technical overload and trickster nature involved in failures & successes bolster my challenge. Crackle aesthetic is part of the current variation of this technique... light catching fracture with amazing magnifying layers of glass. Co-efficiency of expansion will find me and the evolution will continue.
